We are back from Amish Country Indiana. What a wonderful time we had. I still think back to the beautiful quilts we saw. I have posted the center of one Amish quilt we saw. Notice the seams match up perfectly in the center.

Day 2 in Amish Country Indiana

Ron and I visited four different quilt shops today the whole time I was fabric admiring and quilt gazing. Yesterday I mentioned the tiny quilting stitches made by the Amish; I have posted a photo of those tiny little stitches. I am amazed by how tiny and even they are. Are you as jealous as I am?

One shop we visited had both an APQS Millennium long arm and a HQ Fusion long arm complete with the Pro Stitcher. We discussed long arms and she said she originally had a Gammill, but traded it in for her APQS. She said the APQS is much lighter and less stressful on your body than the Millennium or the Fusion. She also mentioned she oils the Millennium less often than she did the Gammill and that she never has drips of oil anywhere when oiling the Millennium like she did with the Gammill. We did not discuss the oiling of the Fusion, but she says she really likes both machines and that the Fusion is very easy to use.

I would love to have a long arm, but hate to spend that kind of money. I would use the machine to quit for others, but don’t know if there is enough business to help pay for the machine. All of the sales reps for long arm machines have assured me the business is there, but it is a big leap of faith and I am still questioning my faith with this…

Indiana Amish Country

I am sitting in our room at The Patchwork Quilt Country Inn Bed and Breakfast in Middlebury, Indiana. I am in the heart of Amish country here in Indiana and look forward to seeing the many quilts and shops in the surrounding towns. I really admire the work these people do. They have such a fantastic work ethic, we could learn a lot from them.

Their quits are exquisite. The attention to detail, all seams match and are never a skewed. Their tiny quilting stitches make most quilters envious. The sense of color and design, though plain, is absolutely breath taking.

While I do not know what lies ahead for me to see in the upcoming days, you can rest assured you will hear about it and I know I will be amazed.

This is my first blog post! My name is Kelly Hunsberger and quilting is my passion (after my family – especially my two perfect grandsons!). My husband, Ron, will be very happy when he realizes I have finally posted to this. He has been after me for a long time to begin blogging. I have been quilting for over twenty years. I have made a number of quilts over the years, giving most away as gifts. Ron and my family are my number one supporters and are constantly telling me I should go into business with my work. I have to admit I have toyed with the idea, but still not sure…stay tuned as I try to figure out what to do.
